Be present. Live purposefully. Find meaning.
Be present. Live purposefully. Find meaning.
I am a UK-qualified clinical psychologist, who relocated to beautiful North Vancouver with my family in 2014.
As a registered psychologist, I have almost 20 years of clinical experience supporting youth (14+) and adults of all ages with a wide variety of presenting concerns (such as anxiety or depression) particularly in the context of life transitions, including long-term physical health conditions. My clinical practice is evidence-based at its core, and my goal as a therapist is support you to create and develop a life of meaning and value. This may involve learning new skills and trying out new strategies or ways of responding in the here-and-now. It may also involve exploring some of the life experiences that have shaped your understanding of yourself, others and the world up to this point. We will take the time to figure out what’s important to you and together, we will co-create a therapeutic approach that makes sense. My theoretical orientation typically draws on the following models:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Informed (DBT skills)
Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT)
I take a compassionate, and person-centred stance in therapy.. My work is also firmly underpinned by my own values of anti-racism and social justice; my passion for creating inclusive spaces and my understanding that mental health and wellness are impacted fundamentally by experiences of discrimination.
Education
Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy), University of East Anglia, UK
Doctorate in Psychology (PhD), University of St Andrews, UK
Master of Arts in Psychology (MA), University of St Andrews, UK
When I am not working, I can be found walking my dog in the North Van trails or raising my voice in song with my local choir.
I am wholeheartedly grateful for the opportunity to live, work and raise my family on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Squamish and Tsleil Waututh peoples and I hold my responsibility as an uninvited guest on these lands central in all I do.
Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
In the first session, I will ask a series of questions designed to get an accurate picture of your current difficulties and relevant history, as well as what you want to achieve in therapy. I’ll provide you with a working understanding of your challenges, along with my recommendations for therapy. This will include the treatment model or approach, anticipated length of treatment, and frequency of sessions. To ensure that you receive high quality care, I may refer you to other clinicians who have expertise in an area that I do not, I may recommend additional resources or services (e.g., community services), and/or I may recommend you seek medical advice (e.g., for medication evaluation, to rule out physical causes for your symptoms).
Every therapy session is 50 mins long.
In keeping with guidance issued by the College of Psychologists of BC (CPBC), each 50 min session is charged at $225, payable at the time of the appointment. Many people find that they can be reimbursed for the services of a Registered Psychologist (RPsych) under their extended health benefits plan.
Typically, we will meet weekly or biweekly in the first instance. Evidence suggests that meeting less frequently than this can slow the rate of change. We may start off meeting more frequently and then space sessions out as you start to feel more confident with the changes you have made in therapy.
